Evernorth Hits Nasdaq With 473 Million XRP and an Accounting Twist

Evernorth is getting ready to list on the Nasdaq stock exchange. This happens on Monday. When it does, a huge pile of XRP tokens will be part of a company regular people can buy shares in. About 473 million of these tokens are moving into the mix. The deal with Armada Acquisition Corp. II wrapped up on October 9. Shares will start trading under the code XRPN on October 12. Investors put in roughly $300 million before costs. Big names like Ripple, SBI Group, Pantera Capital, Kraken, and GSR are backing the venture.

Most crypto treasury firms just buy coins and wait for prices to climb. Evernorth wants to do something different. CEO Asheesh Birla says they will actively spend money to build things on the XRP network. They plan to support financial apps and infrastructure. The goal is to grow the amount of XRP tied to every single share. They might use yield opportunities or capital markets moves. Birla believes money markets should run all the time on blockchain tech. This could change how loans and assets are settled without waiting for bank hours.

But there is a catch involving Ripple. Evernorth has to report its XRP value differently than other companies. They use historical cost instead of current market prices. New rules from 2023 usually force companies to show unrealized gains and losses. However, those rules do not apply to assets from related parties. Even though Evernorth is no longer fully owned by Ripple, they say they are still connected. So the older accounting method stays in place. This means earnings might not show the true market value of the tokens.

Liquidity is key for this plan to work. Tokenized assets need enough money moving around to be useful. Evernorth hopes to help by putting capital on the XRP Ledger. This could help lending and collateral management grow. Shareholders get exposure to crypto plus active management returns. But demand for XRP depends on whether these new apps actually need the token. It is worth asking if the token price alone tells the whole story.
