As women age, their bodies change, often leading to more body fat. This extra fat can cause inflammation in the blood vessels, which raises the risk of heart diseases. Doctors recommend regular exercise to help keep these problems in check. Among these exercises, water-based ones are particularly good for older women who are overweight. A recent study looked into how water walking can affect inflammation, a chemical called nitric oxide, and the stiffness of blood vessels in older, overweight women.
The study involved 26 women who were split into two groups. One group did water walking exercises three times a week for three months, while the other did not. The results showed that the women who did the water walking had less inflammation and more nitric oxide in their bodies. Their blood vessels also became less stiff. This suggests that water walking can be a helpful way for older women to stay healthy and prevent heart diseases.
