The International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) has made a striking declaration: Israel's operations in Gaza may constitute genocide. A significant majority of the organization's members voted in agreement, asserting that Israel's conduct aligns with the UN's definition of genocide.

What's Happening in Gaza?

The experts highlighted Israel's strikes on hospitals, schools, and humanitarian organizations, as well as the severe impact on children. The UN reports that 50,000 children have been killed or injured, making it nearly impossible for Palestinians to sustain families and communities.

Intentional Harm or Self-Defense?

Some Israeli officials have openly discussed forcing Palestinians out of Gaza and even destroying the territory entirely. The experts argue that such statements, coupled with military actions, indicate a deliberate intent to harm Palestinians as a group.

Israel denies these accusations, blaming Hamas for the crisis. However, the experts contend that Israel's response has devastated all of Gaza, far beyond just targeting Hamas.

Legal and Humanitarian Concerns

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is investigating the claims. South Africa has accused Israel of potential genocide, though the court has not yet issued a ruling. Israel has until 2026 to present its defense.
