Exploiting a Weak Spot: Jets' Game Plan Against Packers

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, United KingdomSun Oct 06 2024
In Week 5, the Jets have found an interesting way to give themselves an edge against the Packers. They plan on targeting cornerback Murphy. Why Murphy? Well, he’s been struggling in slot coverage, and the stats show it clearly. Despite not being at the top for most snaps in this position, Murphy has allowed more yards (185) than anyone else except one player, and he's given up the fifth-most receptions (15). That means he's letting opponents get away with lots of yardage. Let’s look at another number: 2. 89 yards per slot coverage snap. Murphy is the worst among qualified defenders in this category. The next closest player, Buffalo’s Cam Lewis, isn’t even close with his 1. 94 yards. Even outside the slot, Murphy isn't doing great. He has a completion rate of 68% and has let opponents gain 167 yards. So, if the Jets focus on this weakness, they might just be able to score big against the Packers. It’s all about finding the right spots to make gains in a game.
