It was a play that could've been a game-changer, but it ended in a simple out. During Game 4 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium, a fan in the stands made a surprising move. A foul ball hit by Gleyber Torres went straight towards Mookie Betts, who was ready to make the catch. Just as Betts was about to grab the ball, a fan wearing a gray Yankees jersey reached out and snatched it right from Betts' glove. This unusual interference led to Torres being called out right away.
This wasn't the first time Torres had a run-in with fans during the World Series. In the ninth inning of Game 1 at Dodger Stadium, another fan caught his fly ball, which resulted in Torres getting a double.
The Dodgers had taken an early lead in the game, thanks to Freddie Freeman's two-run homer in the top of the first inning off Luis Gil. With this, the Dodgers were up 2-0 and were just one win away from securing their second championship in five years.
Fans may cheer and catch balls, but sometimes their actions can change the course of a game in unexpected ways.
