Federal Hill is pushing for stronger measures against violent crime after a suspect was caught in a recent murder case. The victim, Charles Brothers, was shot in an elementary school parking lot during his birthday celebration. This has left the community worried and asking for more help. Jen Covino, who leads public safety for the Federal Hill Neighborhood Association, thanked the police for their quick work. However, she also made it clear that more needs to be done. The area has seen a big increase in violent crimes. Homicides are up by 22%, common assaults by 104%, and aggravated assaults by 38% compared to city averages.
Covino pointed out that this violence affects families thinking about moving to Baltimore. She said that when parents search online, they might see news about the murder at Federal Prep and decide against moving there. She wants the city to use successful crime-fighting strategies from other areas in Federal Hill. The suspect, Davahughn Johnson, is currently in custody without bond. His next court hearing is set for January 29. The community hopes this arrest will lead to more action and safer streets.
