FEMA’s Surprising Rule: Skip Trump Supporter Homes After Hurricane
Lake Placid, USASat Nov 09 2024
This: You’ve just experienced a hurricane, and your home is damaged. You’re hoping for help from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). But, if you have a Trump sign or flag outside, you might be out of luck.
A FEMA supervisor in Florida told disaster relief workers to avoid homes with pro-Trump signs. This order came just after critics blasted the government’s slow response to Hurricane Milton. Workers followed this rule, skipping around 20 homes between October and November.
FEMA confirmed the incident, saying they were “deeply disturbed. ” They removed the supervisor, Marn’i Washington, from her role and are investigating. They also reached out to missed residents. The Florida governor, Ron DeSantis, slammed this as a sign of political bias.
This isn’t how aid should work. Emergency help should be for everyone, no matter their political beliefs. But, in this case, some people were left out because of a sign in their yard. It’s a reminder that fairness matters, especially in tough times.
