You know how sometimes friends fight over who gets the last piece of pizza? Well, imagine if that pizza was a top job in the government. That's basically what happened with Donald Trump's pick for a key finance role. Two of Trump's closest finance buddies, Scott Bessent and Howard Lutnick, were in a nasty fight over the job. It got so bad that Trump had to step in and play referee.
At first, it looked like Bessent had the job in the bag. Trump thought he was the right fit and that he "looked the part. " But then, Lutnick decided he wanted the job too. And he had a big supporter: Elon Musk, one of Trump's close allies. Musk even posted about it on his social media, which has a ton of followers. This made things super confusing for Trump.
Trump was getting really frustrated with all the drama and the leaks about the job fight. He even brought in more candidates to make things fair. In the end, Trump chose Bessent, even though Musk didn't agree.
But the fight didn't end there. Bessent and Lutnick weren't getting along at all. Some of Trump's advisers were worried they wouldn't be able to work together. One adviser even said their fight was like a "cold war, " and then changed their mind and said it was more like a "knife fight. " Yikes!
Right after the election, Trump was already complaining to his aides about how Bessent and Lutnick weren't getting along. It was a big mess!
