Finding free sandbags near you in Louisiana before the storm
Louisiana, USAWed Jun 17 2026
Storms are coming to Louisiana, and local leaders are handing out sandbags to help people protect their homes. Sandbags act like tiny walls that block water from flooding buildings. Instead of waiting until the last minute, officials want residents to grab sandbags now and get ready early.
In Lafayette Parish, sandbags are available at several spots. The main location is near the North District office on Dugas Road. Other places include behind Broussard City Hall, a few subdivisions, and spots near the community center. One catch: people need to bring their own shovel and help fill the bags. No one will do it for them.
Iberia Parish has sandbags at fire stations in B. O. M, Grand Marais, and Coteau. There are also bags at the Delcambre water tower, Loreauville park, Lydia Fire Station, and Jeanerette and Rynella fire departments. Just like in Lafayette, don’t expect tools or help filling the bags—residents must do it themselves.
St. Martin Parish offers sandbags at four spots. Two are near Breaux Bridge, one is in St. Martinville, and another is in Stephensville. Again, no shovels or extra hands will be provided. People should arrive prepared to fill and carry their own bags.
