Fire Danger: A Warning for Massachusetts

Boston, USATue Nov 12 2024
Massachusetts is under a red flag warning due to high fire risk. While the wind isn't unusually strong by New England standards, it's enough to quickly spread fires in our dry conditions. The recent rain did little to help, as warm temperatures dried it up. Gusty winds and low humidity will keep the danger high through Wednesday. Most fires have been caused by humans. It’s crucial to avoid any dried brush or understory with flames or sparks. Winds will calm down on Wednesday night, but temperatures will remain chilly. The sun will shine into Thursday, but it won't be very warm. Several freezing mornings are expected soon. Boston might even see its first 32-degree temperature of the season on Thursday morning. While recovery will be slow, we can expect warmer temperatures in the 50s by the weekend. A large storm brewing over the Maritimes is adding uncertainty to the forecast. These types of storms can be tricky to predict. So, we'll be cautious and watch for any showers that might return by Friday night or Saturday.
