Fire Hits Jewish Ambulances in North London

Golders Green, UKMon Mar 23 2026
Four volunteer ambulances that belong to a local Jewish charity were set on fire in Golders Green, north London. Police say the blaze was an antisemitic hate crime and have opened a full investigation. The vehicles are part of Hatzola, a non‑profit group that volunteers to respond to medical emergencies. When the fire started at about 0140 GMT, residents heard alarms and called emergency services. Firefighters from the London Fire Brigade rushed to the scene with six engines and 40 crews. They worked until the fire was under control by around 0306 GMT. The flames caused several gas cylinders to explode, breaking windows in a nearby apartment block, but fortunately no one was hurt.
This incident comes after a spike in attacks on Jewish people and places across the globe, especially since the Gaza war began. Britain has seen a noticeable rise in antisemitic incidents during this period. The most serious attack on Jews in Britain last year occurred in Manchester, where two worshippers were killed during a Yom Kippur service. That tragedy highlighted the ongoing threat to Jewish communities. Police are treating this arson as a hate crime and will keep officers on scene while they investigate. The community is urged to report any suspicious activity to help prevent further attacks.
