In Ventura County, northwest of Los Angeles, fire crews are fighting a wildfire called the Mountain Fire. They've made good progress, thanks to helpful weather. The fire's size is about 32 square miles, and crews have contained 26% of it. Sadly, more than 100 structures, many of them homes, have been destroyed, while another 88 are damaged.
The fire started on Wednesday and grew quickly due to strong winds. It forced many people to leave their homes and threatened many more structures in Camarillo and nearby areas. Officials are still finding out what caused the fire. They plan to hold a meeting with the community to discuss the situation.
Agriculture officials say the fire has caused a lot of damage to farms, especially those growing avocados, citrus, and berries. The damages are estimated to be around $2. 4 million. The Perez family, who lived in their home for over two decades, lost everything when the fire destroyed their mobile home.
Forecasts say another round of winds is coming, but they might not be as strong as the ones that made the fire spread quickly. The governor of California, Gavin Newsom, has declared a state of emergency in Ventura County.
