Fisherman's Clever Cooler Rescue
Florida, USAFri Oct 11 2024
A fisherman in Florida had a wild night at sea after his boat broke down during Hurricane Milton. He spent the night clinging to an ice box in 25-foot waves, nearly 30 miles off the coast! The U. S. Coast Guard swooped in and saved him with a helicopter on Thursday. The strong winds and giant waves made it a tough scenario even for experienced boaters. But thanks to a life jacket, a special beacon, and that trusty cooler, he made it through. The Coast Guard said he might have faced winds up to 90 mph and waves over 20 feet tall. What a crazy adventure out there in the Gulf of Mexico!
The boat trouble started on Monday near Madeira Beach, and on Wednesday, he tried to fix it but lost contact with the Coast Guard as the hurricane hit. He was finally spotted and picked up near Longboat Key. A cool video shows a Coast Guard diver swimming to him from the helicopter. They took him to Tampa General Hospital for a check-up. It's not clear what happened to his boat after all that.
