Flint saw a lot of changes in 2025. New buildings went up, and some old problems stayed. It was a year of big plans and a few setbacks.
First, let's talk about the good stuff. Flint got some shiny new spots. A new YMCA opened downtown in April. It's part of a bigger project called LiveWell on Harrison. This place isn't just for workouts. It has homes and health services too. More people are walking around downtown now, which is great.
Then, in July, the county got a new office building on Saginaw Street. It's where lots of different county jobs are now in one place. No more running around town for meetings!
Schools got some love too. A new building called The Hub opened in September. It's the first new school in Flint in over 50 years! It's for kids who love science and tech stuff. There are cool classrooms and lots of gadgets.
Michigan State University also added a new public health building downtown. It's a big deal because it shows how the university and the city are working together.
But it wasn't all good news. A project to clean up blight in Flint ended badly. A group called the Neighborhood Engagement Hub stopped the project because they couldn't check if the work was done right. They didn't get the papers they needed, and they weren't sure if the work met their standards.
Some other news is still up in the air. Davison Township is thinking about building a new town hall and police station. They have two plans, but they haven't decided which one to do yet.
Swartz Creek Schools got a new interim boss. Wayne Wright is in charge now. He's been around for a while, so he knows the drill. He'll be there for about six months while they look for someone permanent.
Lastly, some old Flint groups got money for the future. Four places that teach about Flint's history now have endowments. That means they'll get money every year to help them stay open and do their thing.
