However, it didn't quite meet the criteria for a "bomb cyclone, " which requires a rapid drop in pressure. Vacationers in Florida were surprised by the cold weather. Alaina Howard, an Ohio resident visiting South Florida, noted the contrast between the warm clothing of her Florida friends and her own shorts and T-shirt. In Panama City Beach, a local business saw an increase in bonfire reservations as people sought warmth on New Year's Eve. The chilly weather was expected to last through New Year's Day and into Friday. After that, temperatures were forecast to rise, with West Palm Beach reaching a high of 77 degrees by Saturday. This cold snap was a stark contrast to the warmer-than-average temperatures Florida had experienced throughout December.
