Early Friday morning, the National Weather Service (NWS) warned drivers in Texas and Louisiana to be extra careful. Why? Dense fog has rolled in, making it hard to see. The advisory started at 4 a. m. CDT and will last until 10 a. m. CDT. In some areas, visibility could drop to just one quarter-mile!
NWS Lake Charles, Louisiana, said driving in such conditions can be dangerous. So, they suggested slowing down, turning on headlights, and keeping a safe distance from other cars. It's also a good idea to give yourself more time to reach your destination.
The foggy weather affects many counties and parishes in both states. In Texas, counties like Vernon and Tyler-Hardin are included. In Louisiana, parishes like Rapides and Beauregard are also under the advisory.
Meanwhile, other parts of the country are expecting different weather issues. A low-pressure system is moving northeast, bringing showers and thunderstorms to the Middle Mississippi/Ohio Valleys. It's also causing rain over the Great Lakes and the Northeast.
Out west, a weather front is moving inland from the Pacific Northwest, bringing rain with it. And in Florida, scattered rain is expected from Saturday afternoon into Sunday.
So, if you're driving in Texas or Louisiana this morning, take it slow and stay safe!
