Michael Lombardi, a well-known football analyst at VSiN, is leaving to join Bill Belichick as the general manager of the North Carolina Tar Heels football program. Belichick, famous for his six Super Bowl wins with the New England Patriots, was recently announced as UNC's head coach. The role of general manager has become increasingly important in college football, especially with the rise of the transfer portal and NIL deals. Lombardi, who has been with VSiN since 2018, hosted shows like "The Lombardi Line" and "GM Shuffle" podcast. He has a rich NFL background, serving as a GM and winning three Super Bowls over his 30-year career with teams like the Patriots, 49ers, Raiders, and Browns.Belichick once praised Lombardi, saying, "He's one of the smartest people I've ever worked with and was a huge asset to me for the two years that he was here. He really understands the game. " VSiN co-founder Brian Musburger expressed appreciation for Lombardi's insights and wished him well on this new venture. Lombardi plans to finish his obligations at VSiN over the next few weeks before fully transitioning to his new role at UNC.
