Free Health Checks Coming to Flint
Flint, USAThu Apr 09 2026
Flint is rolling out a free health fair downtown next month. On April 9, from 10 AM to 2 PM, the Genesee County Health Department and the University of Michigan-Flint team up to run their yearly Public Health Expo at the county administration building on Saginaw Street. Anyone can walk in for quick health screenings, free shots, and booths packed with tips on staying healthy. The event also marks National Public Health Week, a yearly push to remind everyone how community health programs keep people safer year-round.
Public health work isn’t new—it’s been around for over a century and a half, quietly helping folks live longer and dodge preventable illnesses. Still, many people only notice these services when a crisis hits or when a health fair pops up in town. The expo tries to change that by giving residents a simple way to check blood pressure, catch early warning signs, and grab immunizations without digging into their wallets. Parking won’t cost a dime either, thanks to the Beach Street garage and nearby university lots.
What’s striking is how much local health work stays invisible until it’s needed. Most residents probably don’t realize how many daily efforts go into tracking diseases, inspecting restaurants, or running school vaccination drives. The fair puts some of those behind-the-scenes jobs on display. Local agencies, students, and partners will set up tables to show what they do beyond the headlines.
