Freeman Health Expands in Arkansas While Tech Giants Push AI into Care

Freeman Health System, based in Missouri, has agreed to purchase four Arkansas hospitals for $112 million. The deal covers the 128‑bed Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville, the 222‑bed center in Springdale, a 64‑bed women’s hospital in Willow Creek, and the 73‑bed Siloam Springs Regional Hospital. Outpatient facilities and physician practices will also join the transaction, which is expected to close in Q2 after regulatory approval. This move lets Freeman extend its services into a new state and strengthens its network. Meanwhile, a coalition backed by health insurers called Better Solutions for Healthcare has launched “Hospital Watch. ” The campaign highlights data that suggest corporate hospital systems contribute to rising costs. By spotlighting financial and operational patterns, the group hopes to influence policy discussions on affordability. Data from Vizient show that patients with chronic conditions—such as heart disease, cancer, stroke and diabetes—use most of the healthcare system. The report points to fragmented care as a driver of higher expenses, underscoring the need for coordinated treatment plans.On the technology front, Amazon Web Services introduced a set of AI tools named Amazon Connect Health. The aim is to streamline routine tasks for clinicians. CVS Health plans to launch a new subsidiary, Health100, later this year. The platform will let users locate providers, compare costs, and manage health records in one place. It also offers personalized care recommendations for chronic patients and a digital portal to keep them engaged between visits. Salesforce is expanding its AI agent library in partnership with HealthEx, Verily and Viz. ai. The goal is to automate administrative duties for payers, providers and public health bodies—ranging from intake processes to electronic record updates, bed management and outbreak monitoring. These developments illustrate a trend: while hospitals are consolidating to manage debt, technology firms are increasingly investing in AI solutions that promise to reduce paperwork and improve patient coordination.
