French CEOs Slam Looting Spree Across Stores

French business leaders have spoken out after a wave of looting hit many shops across the country. They say the chaos hurts the heart of the economy.

Guibert, who runs Lacoste and Aigle, posted a strong message on social media. He said that when stores are broken into, it is not just glass that is shattered. It also puts jobs, years of work, skill and the effort of many people at risk. Lacoste has about 150 shops in France. He believes the riots show a decline in French industry.

The head of a big esports group also felt the impact. His gaming café and club were ransacked on Saturday. He wrote that while he will always defend the right to protest, looting has no place. His 4,300‑square‑foot center, shop and café in central Paris were hit. Luckily no staff or fans were hurt. But the windows were smashed and trophies and computers were taken.

Carrefour’s CEO said 50 of his stores were attacked on the same day. He wrote that no reason can excuse such violence. Those who hurt the work of brave entrepreneurs must face a firm reply. He added that the government must protect shopkeepers. He posted four pictures showing empty aisles and goods scattered on the floor.

Thierry Cotillard, who leads Les Mousquetaires, called the thefts unacceptable. He said we cannot ignore these scenes. Violence cannot become a way to express anger. Two of his Intermarché locations in Paris and Rennes were ransacked. He sent a message of support to all shopkeepers who are suffering. He told his teams they are not alone and that they stand together.
