Fresh Faces on the Line: Oklahoma's Young Tackles Step Up
Oklahoma, Norman, USASat Oct 25 2025
Oklahoma's offensive line is getting a youthful boost. Ryan Fodje, a true freshman, is set to make his first career start at right tackle. This comes after Derek Simmons, a senior, got hurt in practice. Fodje has been playing guard but is moving back to tackle, a spot he played in high school.
Fodje isn't the only young player stepping up. Michael Fasusi, another true freshman, is already the starter at left tackle. With injuries to other players, these two freshmen are now the main tackles for Oklahoma. It's a big jump for them, but they are ready to protect their quarterback, John Mateer.
The team has other options if needed. Luke Baklenko, a junior, can play both tackle spots. Logan Howland, a redshirt sophomore, is recovering from an injury but might play. Daniel Akinkunmi, a redshirt freshman, is also available if needed.
This season has been a learning experience for the young tackles. They signed with Oklahoma expecting to develop over time. But now, they are starting sooner than expected. Their performance will be crucial as Oklahoma faces tough opponents.
