Friends and Colleagues Remember Director Jeff Baena

On January 4, the sudden passing of director Jeff Baena shook the indie comedy scene. Those who worked closely with him couldn’t help but share their memories and gratitude. Adam Pally, known for his roles in Baena’s films like "Life After Beth, " shared his personal experiences. He described Baena as a uniquely skilled filmmaker with a great taste in movies. But more importantly, Pally highlighted Baena's ability to connect people and create a welcoming atmosphere. He was the guy who always knew the best restaurants, fostered friendships, and made everyone feel welcome. Molly Shannon, who starred in several of Baena’s films including "Horse Girl, " recalled her time with him through behind-the-scenes photos from their last movie together, "Spin Me Round. " Lauren Weedman, who appeared in all of Baena’s films since "Joshy, " struggled to find the right words to honor him. She eventually focused on his ability to build a strong sense of community on set.
