IL, USAWed Feb 05 2025
In the world of business, TikTok has become a powerhouse for entrepreneurs.
CharCharms, a company specializing in custom water bottle accessories, seized this opportunity.
Leaving college and stepping into the world of entrepreneurship, Charlotte Trecartin, the founder of CharCharms made a strategic move. This decision was to invest in a TikTok coach, a unique marketing strategy to grow her business. For $400 monthly, the coach guided Trecartin in optimizing her posts to attract a broader audience. This particular advice took CharCharms from a small startup to a contender. The result as a staggering 80, 000 followers. This online buzz caught the eye of major retailers and secured big deals with names like Dick's Sporting Goods and Target.
Understandably, not everyone was easily impressed. Even though CharCharms had impressive numbers, when appearing on ABC's "Shark Tank, "there were doubts from investors including Kevin O'Leary. He bluntly stated that the market was already saturated with similar products.
Yet, Trecartin was not just meeting expectations. She was exceeding them. In preparation for filming this TV show, CharCharms were on, track for million-dollar profits. The company saw record-breaking revenue figures in 2023, exceeding $6. 5 million. Despite the criticism Trecartin shared her insight: "Do you think it's crap now, buddy? ".
During the show, Trecartin was seeking an investment. She asked the judges for $300, 000 in exchange for a 10% stake in CharCharms. This was to find a partner who believed in her vision. But not all investors were sold. Some of the judges didn't see the potential. One judge, Kevin O'Leary, which was skeptical offered $300, 000. But this in exchange for a share of 25% of her business. Often investors expect a 10% or moreinvolving a much higher return. But offering a 25% share for $300, 000 is a rip-off. The other sharks did not see the same potential. A 20% share was offered by Daymond John shaping more of a licensing opportunity then the product itself.
The buzz around CharCharms shows that even in a competitive market, there's room for innovation and growth. But, with some clever marketing and a dash of personal charm, it can help in making big waves in the business world.
Forbes reports that TikTok has enabled other entrepreneurs to grow their businesses they have had a growth in as a reporting of 12% of their companies revenue in 2023. Some success stories include beauty influencers, fashion designers and entrepreneurs.
