Fun Outdoors: Louisiana’s Big Sporting Event
LaPlace, Louisiana, USAWed Mar 18 2026
The Louisiana Sportsman Show is set to light up LaPlace from March 20th through 22nd, drawing hunters, anglers and adventure lovers to a big gathering. The venue, the St. John the Baptist Parish Community Center, has wide spaces for booths, craft displays and a food court that serves local dishes. Plenty of parking makes getting there easy.
Military members, veterans and first responders can enter for free on the opening day to honor their service. The event also offers a chance to meet famed fisherman Jimmy Houston, who will be available for pictures, signatures and fishing advice.
Visitors can browse the newest gear: rods, reels, bait, boats for open‑water fishing, ATVs for muddy trails, and a variety of power tools. If it helps you hunt, ride or fish, it will be showcased.
A $1, 000 fishing contest runs from Saturday noon to Sunday 3 p. m. Participants must register and kids need an adult with them. A tagged catch could win the prize money, and winners will be announced on Sunday afternoon.
Professional anglers beyond Houston will also appear for photo ops and chats about their experiences. Dog lovers can bring pets to compete in retriever contests or simply enjoy watching.
Families will find plenty of activities. A Kid’s Zone offers active play, while STEM workshops run Saturday from 11 a. m. to 3 p. m. On Sunday, the Harry Hurst Wetland Watchers will let visitors see and touch baby alligators, snakes and other reptiles in a hands‑on lesson.
