Funding for Green Scholars in Ohio

Ohio, Toledo, USATue Mar 03 2026
The Ohio Association of Litter Prevention and Recycling Professionals is now accepting entries for its yearly C. R. Meyers Scholarship, which hands out a $1, 000 grant to students studying environmental science or education. The group works statewide to train and lead people who manage solid waste, offering courses and support for teachers, businesses and community groups. To win the award, applicants must write a one‑page essay that shows originality and practical ideas (40 % of the score). They also need to demonstrate involvement in school or local projects that protect the environment (40 %). A recommendation letter from a teacher or adviser accounts for the remaining 20 %.
Brandi Schnell, who runs special projects at the Lorain County Solid Waste Management District and heads the association, said the scholarship is more than money. “It’s a chance to help students who see environmental study as a way to make real change, ” she explained. “By backing those committed to science and teaching, we’re building tomorrow’s leaders in litter prevention, recycling, and sustainability. ” Only students who are currently enrolled or planning to enroll at an accredited Ohio college, university or technical school can apply. The final day to submit is April 15 at noon; emails must reach the scholarship chair, Julie Riley, by that time or be mailed on the same date. Completed forms can go to jriley@co. lucas. oh. us or be sent to the Lucas County Solid Waste Management District at 1011 Matzinger Road, Toledo, Ohio 43612.
