Funny Night With a Ghost, a Rock Star and Paul McCartney
New York City, USASun May 17 2026
Will Ferrell returned to host Saturday Night Live for the 51st season finale, joining Paul McCartney who performed three songs. The show began with a prank where Ferrell appeared as a ghost in prison garb, mocking President Trump and pulling surreal visions that included fake beer bongs and a Home Shopping Network cameo.
During the host’s monologue, Ferrell pretended that Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers was the real host. He then invited McCartney to the stage, who humorously claimed he owned the hosting rights too and listed famous songs like “Let It Be” before joking about songs that weren’t his.
McCartney later joined a sketch with Ferrell where he played a mechanic giving absurd advice about car parts.
His musical performances started with the new track “Days We Left Behind, ” followed by Wings’ classic “Band on the Run. ” As the episode wrapped, he surprised everyone with a third song, “Coming Up, ” from his 1980 solo album.
The finale also featured the regular Weekend Update duo, Colin Jost and Michael Che, exchanging fresh jokes that had never been shown before.
SNL will resume in the fall for season 52.
