Gang Violence in Prison Raises Questions
Wallens Ridge State Prison, Big Stone Gap, USASun May 04 2025
Inmates at Wallens Ridge State Prison showed just how dangerous prisons can be. On a Friday, five guards were hurt in a planned attack. This happened in the western part of Virginia. Three of the guards were stabbed, while the other two were injured in some other way. All five were taken out of the prison to get medical help.
Three guards are now back home, but two are still in the hospital. They are okay, though. The attackers were not random inmates. Five of them are part of the MS-13 gang. They came from El Salvador and were in the U. S. illegally. The sixth attacker was a member of the Sureño 13 gang. He was serving time for murder and was a U. S. citizen.
These attackers were no ordinary criminals. Each had a history of violent crimes, including murder and rape. This raises a big question: Why were these dangerous individuals in the country in the first place? The prison director, Chad Dotson, said these five should never have been allowed into the U. S. This shows how immigration policies can have real, dangerous consequences.
Every day, corrections officers risk their lives to keep the public safe. This attack is a stark reminder of the dangers they face. They are the unsung heroes who ensure that society's most dangerous individuals are kept behind bars. Their bravery and dedication deserve recognition and support.
The prison is now investigating what happened. Until the investigation is over, they won't say more. This attack highlights the need for better security measures and stricter immigration policies. It's a wake-up call for everyone involved in the criminal justice system.
