In the world of high school basketball, the Essexville Garber teams had a mixed bag of results. The boys' team showed resilience, while the girls' team fought hard but fell short. The boys' team, known as the Dukes, had a tough start. They gave away two points before the game even began due to a technical foul. But they didn't let that phase them. They played catch-up and won 51-42 against Hemlock. The game was close, but in the final quarter, the Dukes stepped up and limited Hemlock to just seven points. Nathan Foret was a standout, scoring 11 of his 17 points in that last quarter. Coach Chris Watz was pleased, especially since his players were recovering from illness.
The girls' team, also the Dukes, had a different story. They challenged Hemlock, the undefeated team, but couldn't quite pull off the win. The game was tight, but in the end, Hemlock won 49-40. Garber's coach, Megan Cockrell, praised her team's defensive effort and competitiveness. Carly Arnold led the team with 15 points and seven rebounds. Meanwhile, the Hale girls' basketball team dominated their game against Alcona. They led by 24 points after the first quarter and went on to win 68-25. Coach Joe Kimmerer was happy with his team's performance, especially their ball-sharing. Callie Hicks scored 21 points, and Ali Beebe had a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
