Gaza Family Devastated by Israeli Air Strike
Gaza, Khan YounisSat May 24 2025
A tragic event unfolded in Gaza when an Israeli air strike hit the home of a local doctor. The strike resulted in the deaths of nine of her ten children. The doctor, Dr. Alaa al-Najjar, works at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis. Her husband and one of her children were injured but survived.
The strike occurred just minutes after Dr. al-Najjar's husband, Hamdi, had returned home from dropping his wife off at work. The eldest of the deceased children was just 12 years old. The family's home was located near a petrol station in Khan Younis.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that they had targeted over 100 locations in Gaza within a single day. The health ministry reported that at least 74 people had lost their lives due to Israeli military actions within a 24-hour period. This tragic incident highlights the severe impact of the ongoing conflict on civilian families.
A British surgeon, Graeme Groom, who was working at Nasser Hospital, operated on the surviving 11-year-old boy. He described the situation as unimaginable for Dr. al-Najjar. The father, who is also a doctor, was severely injured but had no known political or military affiliations.
The Hamas-run Civil Defense agency recovered eight bodies and several injured individuals from the al-Najjar house. Initially, the hospital reported that eight children had died, but later updated the number to nine. Another doctor, Youssef Abu al-Rish, found Dr. al-Najjar waiting for news about her surviving son in the operating room.
The conflict in Gaza has left many families displaced and struggling with hunger. A relative of the al-Najjar family pleaded for mercy, expressing the exhaustion and suffering of the people in Gaza. The international community has been urged to intervene and bring an end to the violence.
