Gaza Peace Plan: A Test for the UN Security Council
Tue Nov 18 2025
The UN Security Council is about to make a big decision. They are going to vote on a plan proposed by the US. This plan supports President Trump's ideas for peace in Gaza. It also suggests sending international troops to help keep the peace.
A few weeks ago, Israel and Hamas agreed to a temporary truce. They also agreed to release some prisoners. But for this peace deal to work, the UN needs to officially approve it. This will make other countries feel safe about sending their troops to Gaza.
The plan is quite detailed. It talks about setting up a temporary government in Gaza. This government would help rebuild the area and improve the economy. The plan also mentions a process to disarm Hamas and destroy their military equipment.
Russia has shown some resistance to this plan. They even suggested their own version. But the Palestinian Authority has supported the US plan. This makes it more likely to pass.
The plan has caused some debate in Israel. It talks about the possibility of a Palestinian state in the future. This is something that not everyone in Israel agrees with. Prime Minister Netanyahu has said that Israel is still against a Palestinian state. He also said that Gaza will be disarmed, one way or another.
Hamas is not happy with the plan either. They see it as a way for other countries to control Gaza. They think it serves Israel's interests more than their own.
The vote is happening soon. It will be interesting to see how the other countries on the Security Council react. Will they support the US plan, or will they have their own ideas?
