Gaza's Families Face Uncertainty Amid Rising Tensions
GazaSat Aug 16 2025
In Gaza, the situation is tense and families are worried. Israel has said it plans to move people from dangerous areas to the south. This is part of a bigger plan to launch a major military operation in some of the most crowded parts of Gaza. The Israeli military group in charge of aid, COGAT, said they will start sending tents back into Gaza on Sunday. But they won't say when the big move of people will happen. Defense Minister Israel Katz shared on social media that they are working on a plan to defeat Hamas.
Meanwhile, families of Israeli hostages are feeling desperate. They want the government to do more to bring their loved ones home. These families are calling for a big protest on Sunday. They want everyone in Israel to stop what they are doing and join them in demanding action. The families are especially worried because a recent offensive could put the remaining 50 hostages in even more danger. Only 20 of them are thought to still be alive. The families and their supporters have been pushing for a deal to end the war. Some former army and intelligence leaders have also been calling for this.
At a rally in Tel Aviv, Dana Silberman Sitton spoke about her sister Shiri Bibas and nephews Kfir and Ariel Bibas, who were killed in captivity. She said, \"I want to believe there is hope, and it will not come from above, it will come only from us. \" Pushpa Joshi, whose brother Bipin Joshi is a hostage, said, \"I miss my best friend. \"
In Gaza, an Israeli airstrike killed a baby girl and her parents on Saturday. This happened in the crowded Muwasi area. A neighbor asked, \"Two and a half months, what has she done? \" They are civilians in an area that was supposed to be safe. Israel's military said they couldn't comment on the strike without more details. They also said they are trying to dismantle Hamas' military capabilities and avoid harming civilians.
Muwasi is one of the areas where Israel plans to widen its military offensive. Other areas include Gaza City and the Nuseirat and Bureij camps in central Gaza. Some people think Israel might be using the threat of a bigger offensive to pressure Hamas into releasing more hostages. The Hamas attack in 2023 killed around 1, 200 people in Israel. Israel's retaliatory offensive has killed 61, 897 people in Gaza, according to the Health Ministry. The ministry says around half of those killed were women and children.
The situation in Gaza is getting worse. The United Nations says starvation and malnutrition are at their highest levels since the war began. Palestinians are drinking contaminated water and diseases are spreading. A 20-year-old Palestinian woman died after being transferred to Italy for treatment. The U. N. says getting food and aid into Gaza is very difficult because of Israeli restrictions and the huge crowds of hungry people.
