Golf’s New League: Tiger’s Team Wins Thrilling Overtime Match
Wed Jan 29 2025
A thrilling night of golf saw Tiger Woods' Jupiter Links team claim the first-ever overtime win in the Tomorrow’s Golf League (TGL). They beat Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common with a 4-3 score after a sudden-death shootout. The match was a hit with viewers as both teams delivered exciting plays.
This isn’t just any league. TGL is a new format featuring three-player teams competing across 15 holes in a unique arena setting. The SoFi Center in Florida hosts these matches, where players hit off a simulator for some holes before moving to real greens. Points are awarded for each hole won, with ties earning zero points.
The night started with two tied holes. Then, Boston Common used their “Hammer” move to make Hole 3 worth double points, securing the lead. But Jupiter Links bounced back, tying the score on Hole 6.
Tiger Woods made history with the first shot clock violation in TGL history on Hole 10, giving Boston the lead. The teams traded points, leading to a tense Hole 14. Adam Scott’s 31-foot birdie putt evened the score 3-3, sending the match to overtime.
In the nearest-the-pin shootout, Tom Kim and Kevin Kisner clinched the victory for Jupiter Links. Both Woods and McIlroy were delighted with the match, noting the younger audience’s engagement.
Jupiter Links now stand at 1-1, having lost their first match 12-1. They’ll face New York Golf Club next. McIlroy’s Boston Common, making their debut, will next face Los Angeles Golf Club.
This new league aims to attract younger fans with its bite-sized, highly engaging format.
