Microsoft's bet on Black Ops 6 for Game Pass seems to be paying off. The latest Call of Duty game had a massive launch weekend, and Xbox's Game Pass subscriptions are soaring. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella called it the biggest Call of Duty release ever, with record-breaking first-day players and a surge in Game Pass adds.
Sales on other platforms like PlayStation and Steam also jumped by 60 percent compared to last year. This is great news for Microsoft, especially after struggling to sell new Xbox hardware and facing challenges with exclusivity and price hikes.
Black Ops 6 is the first Call of Duty title to launch on Game Pass on day one. Microsoft's strategy was to encourage more users to sign up for the pricier Game Pass Ultimate and boost overall sales. Early signs show this plan might be working.
The company's earnings reveal that revenue from Xbox content and services, not just consoles, is already up over 60 percent thanks to the Activision acquisition. And Black Ops 6 hasn't even been fully accounted for yet.
Looking ahead, with season one and Warzone updates on the horizon, Black Ops 6 is poised to be a big money-maker for Microsoft in 2025.
