Google Maps is making a small change to how it shows weather information. Instead of having the weather widget appear on the map layer, it's moving it to a new section called "Latest in the area. " This section slides up from the bottom of the Android app. The weather info will now be in the top-right corner when fully expanded or in the bottom-right when it's just peeking above the bottom bar. You can tap on the Explore tab to make the bottom card expand more, or swipe the drag handle down to dismiss the sheet entirely.
This change is part of Google's effort to simplify the map's appearance, following a reduction in the number of tabs at the bottom from five to three. Some users might find this change a bit annoying, as it slightly reduces the viewable map area. The new weather display is currently available in the beta version of Google Maps (version 11. 151. x), but it hasn't yet been rolled out to the stable version.
