Google is already planning ahead for its 2026 Pixel phones. The Pixel 11 series, codenamed after bears, includes the Pixel 11 ("cubs"), Pixel 11 Pro ("grizzly"), Pixel 11 Pro XL ("kodiak"), and Pixel 11 Pro Fold ("yogi"). All these devices will use the Tensor G6 chip, internally named "malibu". While this is exciting, it's the Pixel 10a that has everyone talking. Currently in early development, the Pixel 10a, codenamed "stallion", might not get the latest Tensor G5 chip due to cost. This could limit its features, as many new Pixel 10 features depend on the Tensor G5's AI and camera hardware. It's a tough decision for Google, as the Tensor G5 is quite large and expensive.
The Pixel series has always featured unique animal-themed codenames. This tradition continues with the Pixel 11 series, showing Google's commitment to innovation. However, the potential change in chip for the Pixel 10a highlights the company's flexible approach. The Pixel 9a already broke the mold by using a different modem than the Pixel 9 series. So, will the Pixel 10a follow suit? Only time will tell.
