Google's New Pixel 9a: Goodbye Camera Bar, Hello New Look
Mon Feb 10 2025
Google has been teasing changes to its camera design for its upcoming Pixel 9a. This mid-range smartphone is getting a lot of attention for ditching the old camera bar. This move was spotted in leaked case designs.
The case images, which are likely official, show the camera cutout on the left. And this is a big shiftfrom the Pixel 9 series, which had a camera bar that stretched across the width of the phone. This means we can say goodbye to the iconic camera bar.
The cases also give us a hint about the colors. There are four: pink, black, purple, and white. Google has a habit of giving fancy names to their colors. It wouldn't be surprising if these match up with names like “Peony, ” “Obsidian, ” “Iris, ” and “Porcelain. ”
The case design itself is pretty standard. It has a “G” logo in the center and the inside has a textured finish. The front view leak showed the bezels. The bezels are the edges around the screen.
This is a big deal. Camera bars have been a signature feature of Google's Pixels for years. They are a unique design that lets you knowit is a Google device. But will removing it help them? Pixel users are used to the camera bar. But maybe it's time for a change.
Google’s next mid-range device is shaping up to be interesting. Removal of the iconic camera bar could mean new features. It could also improve the design. Will it be a hit with users? Or miss the mark?
