Grandparents: Let's Talk About Our Words to Grandkids
Atlanta, USAThu Dec 19 2024
Ever thought about the power of your words when chatting with your grandkids? It's a big deal! Atlanta psychologist Dr. Delawalla says sneaking treats or sharing secrets can weaken your kid's trust in their parents. That's not cool. It might even make them keep dangerous secrets. So, let's not do that.
Instead, how about we focus on being honest? You can still spoil them without breaking the rules their parents set. It's all about respect. Now, comments about their bodies? Not a good idea. They can mess with a kid's self-esteem. We've all heard stories about this, right? So let's avoid saying things like, "You're getting so big! " or "Have you lost weight? ". It's about their personality, not their looks.
And hey, let's not compare them to others. It's just not healthy. Instead, ask about their hobbies or what they've been up to. Show them you care about who they are inside. That's how we build strong relationships.
Oh, and let's not make a big deal about how much they eat. It's not a competition. Just let them be kids. They'll grow and change at their own pace. Our job is to support and love them for who they are.
