To understand what was happening inside the plants, they analyzed the chemicals in the leaves at different times after treatment and infection.Here's what they found: after treatment with oregano oil, the grapevines produced special compounds called monoterpenol disaccharides. These compounds are like the plant's way of storing and using the beneficial chemicals from the oregano oil. The presence of these compounds was linked to less severe mildew infection in the leaves. The main components of oregano oil are aromatic monoterpenols. The scientists think that these compounds from the oil are transformed by the grapevine and stored as glycosides.
