A young man from Montgomery, Jaquez Myrick, was caught with a Glock pistol that could fire like a machine gun near Tuskegee University. A deadly shooting happened there, but he says he didn't shoot at anyone. A federal agent wrote that Myrick admitted firing his gun but wasn't aiming at people.
A Tuskegee police officer, Alan Ashley, was one of the first to arrive at the shooting scene. He saw Myrick with the pistol and took him into custody. The officer found a dead body and passed the gun to a federal agent. This agent found that the pistol could work like a machine gun.
Myrick told the agents he came to Tuskegee looking for a party with friends when the shooting began. He said he bought the Glock from a pawn shop in Florida and got a machine gun conversion device online. He put the device on the pistol himself.
The university was having its 100th homecoming when the shooting happened. Many students were hurt, and an 18-year-old named La'Tavion Johnson was killed. The shooting made people at the university worried and sad.
This isn't the first time police have seen weapons with machine gun conversion devices. These devices can make regular guns shoot faster, and they can be bought online or made with a 3D printer. They have been used in other shootings too.
Last year, there was another shooting at Tuskegee University. The FBI is helping with the investigation now and wants people to send in any videos they have of the shooting.
