Gun Trial Drama: Rihanna's Courtroom Visit and the Mystery of the Prop Gun

A$AP Rocky's trial for a firearm assault case reached its closing arguments on Thursday. The prosecution painted Rocky as the main antagonist in a street fight that allegedly ended with real gunshots on a Hollywood street corner three years ago. The defense argued that the prosecution failed to prove their case and accused the alleged victim, A$AP Relli, of lying and fabricating evidence.
Rihanna, Rocky's partner, made a dramatic entrance into the courtroom with their two young sons, RZA and Riot. She took a seat in the front row, while Rocky sat quietly at the defense table. The prosecutor, Deputy District Attorney Paul Przelomiec, began his summation by questioning Rocky's claim that he was carrying a prop gun during the incident. He argued that the gun was real and that surveillance footage from two locations proved it. Przelomiec pointed out that no one in the video acted as if the gun was fake, and that Relli used a friend as a "human shield" when the gun was brandished.
The defense attorney, Joseph Tacopina, countered by arguing that common sense showed the firearm was a prop gun loaded with blanks. He questioned why Relli would keep pursuing Rocky if he knew the gun was real and why Rocky would fire real bullets with Relli grabbing a friend. Tacopina also accused Relli of perjury, highlighting a dramatic twist where Relli changed his story about visiting a shooting range. He argued that Relli had access to spent 9mm shell casings and tried to pass them off as evidence from the alleged shooting. Tacopina also questioned why prosecutors never used GPS data to confirm Relli's claim about returning to the scene and never called Relli's girlfriend to corroborate his story.
The trial lasted 11 days over four weeks, with prosecutors presenting testimony from Relli, a woman who watched the incident, and four LAPD investigators. Rocky did not testify in his own defense, but his star witness was A$AP Twelvyy, who testified that both he and Relli knew the gun was a prop. Rocky claims the gun was a prop obtained from a video he filmed with Rihanna. The prosecution alleges that Rocky fired two 9mm bullets at Relli during their argument.
The defense claims that Relli was the aggressor and later concocted evidence to extort money from Rocky. Both sides have claimed that blurry surveillance video supports their version of events. The judge allowed both videos to be admitted, leaving jurors to determine which made more sense. The trial judge also told jurors they could consider a secondary basis to acquit Rocky if they believe he reasonably believed he or his friends were in imminent danger.
