In the Meadowview neighborhood, Halloween turned into a mix of fear and fun. Just a day after a man was shot and killed right outside the community center, kids were laughing and playing inside. The center turned into a spooky haunted house, with witches and monsters around every corner. After the scares, the little ones headed to a table full of Halloween treats.
The MeadowBoo Festival is a big deal here. Many parents won't let their kids go trick-or-treating because they worry about safety. Denise Still, who lives nearby, said, \"It's not safe to go door to door. You don't know who's got what. \" She saw the shooting happen right outside her window. She was so scared that she drove to the festival instead of walking.
Jesse Reese, the head of the neighborhood group, said they organized the event to keep kids safe. \"Nowadays, you really don't want kids to go door to door, \" he said. \"That's why we're hosting here to make sure they're not on the streets. \"
The community came together to give the kids a happy Halloween. Reese said, \"Meadowview is like any other place. You have working families, but then I think you do have a few bad apples. \" The police are still looking for the person who shot the man.
