Health Apps Leave Many Behind

Digital health tools are everywhere now. Hospitals and clinics use apps, wearables, and AI to help patients. But these tools do not work the same for everyone. Some groups get left out.

Companies sell these products to health systems without enough oversight. Wealthier patients tend to use the apps more, so the benefits stay with them. Procurement rules often lack checks for fairness, so the gap widens.

Fixing this means developers must show how their tools perform for each subgroup. They need to build datasets that truly represent the whole population. Ongoing monitoring after launch is essential. Clear standards that put fairness first can make digital health reliable for all.
