Over 900, 000 Americans recently discovered their personal and health information was exposed in a data breach. The breach happened at ConnectOnCall, a telehealth service that also offers after-hours support for medical centers. Between February and May, an unauthorized third party accessed patient data, including names, phone numbers, treatments, and Social Security numbers. ConnectOnCall's parent company, Phreesia, assured users that their main services weren’t affected. If you're a patient, watch your mail for breach notifications. These usually offer identity theft protection services, which can be crucial. Even if your Social Security number wasn't exposed, personal and medical info can be used in phishing attacks. Keep an eye on your emails and financial statements. Telehealth data breaches are increasingly common because these companies hold sensitive data and can pay ransoms.
