In China, a new study looked into how often healthcare workers face violence at work and how it affects their mental health. The research lasted from 2020 to 2023, checking in with 14, 993 healthcare workers across the whole country every few months. Nurses made up about a third of the workers, with most of the doctors in the western part of China.
The study found that a big 71. 4% of healthcare workers had seen or been part of workplace violence. Half of them had dealt with it in just the past year! Certain things made it more likely, like age, how long they've been working, where they work, and if they've been near COVID-19 patients. Workplace violence is bad for mental health. 28. 5% of healthcare workers showed signs of PTSD - that's post-traumatic stress disorder. The study found that workplace violence increases the risk of PTSD by a lot. So, it's really important to keep healthcare workers safe and look after their mental health too.
