Healthy Eating Habits in Brazil: Who's Doing It Right?

BrazilThu Jun 26 2025
In Brazil, a big study looked at how well people follow healthy eating habits. Over 15, 000 adults were part of this research. They used three different ways to check if people's diets were good for their health and the planet. The results showed that most people scored low to middle marks on these diet checks. But some groups did better than others. Women, older adults, and those with more money tended to eat healthier. Also, people who exercised regularly had better diets. On the other hand, smokers and those who were overweight or obese scored lower on the diet checks. This suggests that lifestyle choices play a big role in what we eat. The study highlights that our eating habits are not just about food. They are also linked to our income, age, and daily routines. This means that improving diets might require changes beyond just food choices.

questions

Could a diet consisting solely of feijoada (a traditional Brazilian dish) and brigadeiros (a popular Brazilian sweet) achieve a high score on any of the diet quality indices?
What would happen if the researchers replaced the food frequency questionnaire with a 'guess your last meal' quiz?
If the participants swapped their diets with those from a fast-food chain for a week, would the scores on the diet quality indices improve or worsen?
