Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a serious condition that makes it hard for the heart and lungs to work together. Patients often feel tired and have a low survival rate. While current treatments can improve their quality of life, the long-term effects aren't great. In a recent study, researchers looked at how sexual function, healthy habits, and overall well-being relate to female PAH patients. They asked over 300 women, aged 18 to 69, to fill out surveys about their sex life, daily habits, and how happy they feel.
The results showed that on average, these women had moderate sexual function and healthy habits. But, a lot of them—over half—had some sexual problems. Their quality of life also wasn't very high. Interestingly, women who had better sexual function also tended to have healthier habits. But, both sexual function and healthy habits were linked to a lower quality of life. Healthy habits seemed to play a role in how sexual function and quality of life interacted. The study found that having better habits could lessen the negative effect of sexual problems on a woman's overall well-being. So, encouraging healthy habits might be a good way to improve the lives of women with PAH.
