It's no secret that men often struggle to prioritize their health, often leaving medical issues unchecked until it's too late. That's why Pennington Biomedical is hosting its annual Men's Health Summit, a one-of-a-kind event designed to raise awareness and provide free medical screenings for men. On Saturday, from 7am to 1pm, men can stop by for a day of free check-ups, vaccinations, and even the opportunity to donate blood. The event is a veritable smorgasbord of health services, with screenings for prostate cancer, heart health, and blood pressure, as well as free food, door prizes, and educational talks. According to event coordinator JD Lovelace, the goal is to make the experience as inviting and stress-free as possible. "We want men to feel comfortable coming in and getting the care they need," Lovelace said. "We're providing a safe and welcoming space for them to take control of their health. "
Registration for the event is still open, with over 400 men signed up so far. The center is also calling for volunteers to lend a hand and help make the event a success. One of the unique aspects of the Men's Health Summit is its emphasis on tackling the root causes of men's health issues. Lovelace noted that studies have shown that many men are hesitant to visit their doctors, with half of men avoiding medical check-ups altogether. "We're trying to break down those barriers and provide a space where men can get the information and care they need," Lovelace said. To make the most of the event, men are encouraged to fast for at least 12 hours prior to their blood glucose screening. However, Lovelace stressed that fasting is not required, and encouraged men to eat and drink as they normally would. The Men's Health Summit is a powerful reminder that taking control of one's health is a crucial step towards a longer, healthier life. By providing a fun and welcoming environment, Pennington Biomedical is making it easy for men to take that first step.
