Healthy Habits, Happy Minds: What Students Learn About Activity and Screens
Southwestern ChinaThu May 14 2026
A recent study looked at how Chinese college kids feel physically and mentally when they spend time on screens, eat emotionally, or stay active. Researchers handed out a questionnaire to 1, 800 students from three universities in Southwest China. The survey asked about screen time, how much they exercise, emotional eating habits, and overall health.
The data were analyzed with statistical software to see how these factors connect. The results showed that more time in front of screens is linked with poorer physical and mental health. When students ate because of emotions, this link became stronger—nearly 40 % of the effect was due to emotional eating. On a positive note, regular physical activity weakened this negative pattern.
In short, the study says that staying active and avoiding emotional eating can help students counteract the harmful effects of long screen hours. These findings give researchers and campus health staff fresh ideas for programs that promote a balanced lifestyle.
