A big winter storm is heading to New York City and nearby areas. It will bring a lot of snow from Friday evening to Saturday morning. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning. This means people should be ready for tough travel conditions. The storm will start in the afternoon on Friday. It will get stronger by 8 p. m. and last until early Saturday morning. At its worst, it could snow 1 to 2 inches per hour. This will make driving very dangerous. The snow will slow down by midday Saturday, but roads may still be slippery.
Officials are telling everyone to be careful. New York City Emergency Management has a travel advisory. Mayor Eric Adams and Governor Kathy Hochul want people to avoid unnecessary trips. The snow could be 4 to 8 inches in many places. Some areas, like the Catskills and Poconos, might get 8 to 12 inches. South of Interstate 78 in New Jersey, the snow may mix with sleet. This will reduce the total snowfall. Eastern Long Island and eastern Connecticut will also see less snow. By Saturday morning, the snow could turn to a mix of rain and ice. Temperatures will stay cold, so the snow won't melt much. On Sunday, temperatures will rise into the 40s. There might be some rain and ice in the north and west. But another cold blast is coming for the end of 2025. Stay updated with the latest weather news to plan your week.
