Helldivers 2: The End of PlayStation Exclusivity?
Thu Jul 03 2025
Helldivers 2, the popular co-op shooter, is making a big move. It's leaving PlayStation 5 and landing on Xbox Series X/S this August. This is a huge deal because it's not just any game; it's a Sony-published hit that fans have been begging to play on other consoles.
The game's creator, Arrowhead Game Studios, made the announcement. They said they wanted to bring more players into the fight against the enemies of democracy. That's the game's main theme. By adding Xbox, they're doing just that.
Helldivers 2 will cost $40 on Xbox. It's coming out on August 26, the same day as Gears of War: Reloaded on PS5. This swap shows that the competition between Sony and Microsoft is changing. Microsoft is now focusing more on publishing games for other platforms.
Xbox players will have a lot to catch up on. The game has been out for a year and a half. They'll miss out on big events, like last month's invasion of Super Earth. But don't worry, Arrowhead has something exciting planned for the new players joining the Galactic War campaign.
This move is a big step away from console exclusivity. It's not the first time this has happened. MLB The Show did it too. But it's still a shock coming from Sony. It makes you wonder if other big exclusives will follow.
